Reduce our environmental footprint
As a leading manufacturer of planes and trains with operations worldwide, we can help preserve the environment by fostering innovation to deliver more environmentally compatible aircraft and make the world’s most sustainable mode of mass transit — rail — even more sustainable.
We can help combat climate change is by taking steps to consistently reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing, service and other facilities. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is captured in our Health, Safety and Environment Policy. The Policy is overseen by the Health, Safety & Environment Council and executed by the operating group HSE teams. The training, monitoring and follow-up of our environmental performance is conducted systematically through the implementation of our respective group HSE management systems.
We strive to continuously reduce any detrimental environmental impact generated by our products and operations. Lifecycle analysis confirms that customer use and maintenance of our products generates the greatest impact. Nonetheless, the environmental footprint of our service and manufacturing facilities remains an ongoing focus.
By partnering with other original equipment manufacturers, suppliers, customers, universities and industry associations, we’re working to find solutions to today’s most pressing mobility challenges. You can read more about how we’re acting on this aspect of our environmental commitment in the Products , Supply Chain, and Stakeholder Engagement sections of this site.
Across Bombardier, our overriding objective is to strive to achieve carbon-neutral operations. Other key long-term environmental goals include:
- continuously decreasing the amount of natural resources such as water, energy and raw materials used in our production processes
- switching to recyclable materials where possible
- eliminating the use of restricted substances*
- developing a strategy to deliver a “zero waste” performance
To achieve these goals, we’ve set realistic targets and developed concrete initiatives such as the Bombardier Green Fund. We’re also monitoring key environmental performance indicators. Our Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System and related international standards certifications enable us to proactively assess and address site-level environmental risks.
These actions are raising employee awareness of our environmental commitment as well as fuelling innovation, improving our production processes and reducing our environmental impact at sites worldwide.
